General information about Sergiev Posad
Sergiev Posad isthe religious center of the Golden Ring of the Russian cities. The city grew around the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. It’s the most important Russian monastery, founded by Sergius of Radonezh, a Russian spiritual leader and saint. Filming in Sergiev Posad requires permits from the Russian Orthodox church authorities.

The Trinity Lavra consists of several churches built throughout more than seven centuries. The Gateway Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist looks almost defiant in comparison to the surrounding white-stone churches. Built in the XVII c. by the Stroganovs, a wealthy count family, this Baroque temple attracts the eye with its renewed vivid colors.
Chernigovsky skete, an underground temple with frescoes, is part of the monastery as well. It is located on the outskirts of the city.
