Sergiev Posad is the religious center of the Golden Ring of the Russian cities. The city grew around the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. It’s the most important Russian monastery, founded by Sergius of Radonezh, a Russian spiritual leader and saint. Filming in Sergiev Posad requires permits from the Russian Orthodox church authorities.
The city is located 52 km northeast from Moscow, 610 km southeast from Saint-Petersburg. In Sergiev Posad, you can film the religious life of Russia. The city is famous mainly for its temples and sacred places. In addition it is the center of pilgrimage for people from all over the country.
The Gateway Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist looks almost defiant in comparison to the surrounding white-stone churches. Built in the XVII c. by the Stroganovs, a wealthy count family, this Baroque temple attracts the eye with its renewed vivid colours.
Chernigovsky skete, an underground temple with frescoes, is part of the monastery as well. It is located on the outskirts of the city. A large bell tower in the Russian style dating from the late XIX century rises above the entrance to the underground chambers. FilmspbTV fixers can help you get all the permits necessary for filming on the territory of the monastery and the adjacent temples.
Another key location of the region is the Gremyachy waterfall, a kind of a sacred source with a small wooden church nearby. This scenic place is very popular among locals: they go there to pray and to spend time in a picturesque natural setting. A chain of water springs with wooden stairs allows one to take a look at the practices of both pilgrims and local people.
